How's this for a post-modern question?"What's your spiritual orientation?"
It skips the whole 'religious' debate and focuses on the crucial matter of where someone is heading spiritually. To me it conjures up the idea of a few lost wanderers trying to find true north and sharing their discoveries with each other. Which is great because I haven't arrived and I am still learning but I would also like to share the discoveries I've found in the map without people feeling condemned, getting defensive and refusing to listen. I haven't tried it yet but I will try today and I'll let you know how it goes.
